Project Details
This project involved the remodelling and refurbishment of existing school buildings to form new classrooms, a learning support unit, library and resources centre and the refurbishment of the historic chapel.
The project was designed and executed in three phases in line with the school calendar to minimise disruption and maximise usage with the classrooms and learning support unit completed during the summer months. The project was spread over three areas and required the existing services infrastructure to be adapted and extended.
Feature lighting was provided to enhance the architectural design, finishes and features of the existing rooms. Several options were modelled and 3D simulations produced to enable the team to promote the best technical and aesthetic solution.
Natural ventilation was provided to double height areas with MVHR systems installed to serve internal rooms.
Full A/V installations were provided in conjunction with the Client’s in-house IT department and integrated into the overall scheme alongside an extensive school wide upgrade.
The professional team worked closely together to provide a highly integrated design in keeping with the character of the buildings.
An original large classroom/hall which is approximately 150 years old was converted into a new Library Space. A light and modern mezzanine was provided that was completed on an independent structure. Two adjacent courtyards had glass rooflights installed to convert them into reading rooms.
New heating and lighting was introduced alongside improvements to the thermal performance of the building fabric which were sympathetic to the original construction. The lighting was comprised of halo lighting to cover the mezzanine and linear recessed continuous lighting within the mezzanine to the books area. The heating was integrated into the existing original seating to provide comfortable temperatures throughout.
